The reason why Edens Zero characters look similar to characters from Fairy Tail is actually pretty simple. However there is much more to it than Just the Author of Fairy Tail and Edens zero reusing character designs. The reason is Tezuka Osamu star system.

I wondering the same thing why do they look so familiar to the Fairy Tail characters I mean the cat's name is Happy the same Happy from Fairy Tail is this from an alternate timeline or another dimension can somebody please explain that? They even have that white drill dog thing from Fairy Tail even though that's the same creature from Rave Master?
