Van Deursen (https://www.vandeursen.be/), a car electronic shop in Belgium (not the Netherlands as I incorrectly said in the video @ 2:00) offers a plug-and-play kit to allow you to add Apple Carplay/Android Auto functionality to the Audi factory radio units that ran the RNS-E firmware (such as the radio units in the Gen 1 R8).

Here is how you do it for the Gen 1 Audi R8.

For specific coding instructions, I’ve written a DIY post that goes into detail on how to code the radio unit for the Gen 1 Audi R8.

How to support me? Buy Me a Coffee. Every little bit helps as I build more cool stuff to share with you: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/ftwgarage

Further corrections I got from Van Deursen:

For cars with AUX, their kit still gives you the ability to use AUX in addition to Apple Carplay/Android Auto.

Adding touchscreen support will permanently change the screen, preventing your radio unit from reverting back to stock, which they do not support.

  1. Nice video mate, thank you. Are you getting the firmware from the website shown in the video? or specifically from Van Deursen?
