Everybody has it: A gaming backlog. The pile of shame – A gigantic list of games, bought but never touched, that is constantly nagging at your conscience. For some, this is a steam account full of games you got on several sales because you’ll ‘get to it eventually’ – for others, it’s a literal pile of physical media lying around in their house. For me, it was both.
The bigger this backlog got, the more I started to think if I even needed to buy new games, or older titles that were on a great sale, since I knew I wouldn’t play most of them any time soon. But hype is contagious, so I continued to buy – wanting to play all those games at some point.
Well, I still do, and by playing through the world’s biggest backlog, I’ll help YOU to decide on which games are actually worth putting on YOURS. Because not all games are made equal, and sometimes you just need someone else to suffer through them to save you the pain – and maybe give you enjoyment in their suffering.
You might think ‘I don’t even care about that many games, just show me the ones I wanna see’ and you are completely right about that! Being super long and padded is part of the visual novel experience. I literally cannot think of a single visual novel that wouldn't have benefitted from having an editor. I've read like 50 of them and there are only three VNs that I can confidently say have tight pacing. It's mostly because VNs are such a largely indie medium made by independent developers on a shoestring budget, this causes issues like bloating, but it also means there's a ton of creative freedom and stories that are so apeshit they wouldn't pass in ANY other medium get super popular.
I don't want to give you too many expectations right off the bat but the next chapter is considered one of the weakest in the whole series, and is definitely the worst out of them all when it comes to pacing, but it's only uphill from chapter 3 on, certain coming chapters are actual masterpieces imo (I could gush on for ages about how incredible and mindblowing chapter 3, 5, 6 etc are) the author used to be a social worker, and his experience shows in how he writes his characters and their struggles so realistically.
