School Never Taught Me This

School was often a struggle for me. When I look back, I wish it had taught me more of the stuff that really matters in life. How to live healthily, mentally and physically; how to be an empowered team member and leader; how to communicate and win consensus. Debt, loans, tax. Marriage. Friendships. Goal setting and attitudes; dealing with failure and set backs.
Instead I had to teach myself. And it was messy at times.
I have also noticed how often the kids who were naturally celebrated because the were the sporty or clever ones, so often struggled most when real life started.
Because school never taught them that good things just don’t come easy in life.
To every kid who feels invisible in the system right now, but who still shows up and does their best, with a smile and persistence. I salute you. You’ve got this. You’re going to do great in life if you keep at it. The tortoise tends to win. Not always the hare.
