  1. You're attributing a lot of philosophical competence to the Wachowskis, even though they fully admitted in the making of that they basically ripped everything from anime and Asian cinema. Check out Ghost in the Shell if you think the Matrix has a single original thought of its own. Hence why everything fell apart in the sequels when the Wachowski's were forced to actually write something themselves. Not saying the movie is bad, but claiming it's mind blowing is like saying The Magnificent Seven's story is ground breaking for some reason while ignoring the fact that it's merely a remake.

Arrival, apart from being boring, is pretty horribly written. As a science-literate tech guy this movie was one roll-eyes moment after another where common sense, logic and contemporary knowledge was left on the floor, because the writer seemingly didn't have some basic education. I was less than impressed and rather annoyed by the willful ignorance shown on the screen just to make the script work.

Not a bad list, but prepending it with a "top" as if all other movies rank below it, is quite ridiculous considering the fact that you left out movies that would easily make such a list. Oldboy for example.
