Mission Plot Armor Family Is A MESS
Mission: Yozakura Family has been on my to-watch list for quite some time. Since One Piece is on break, I decided to catch up on a new anime series. Mission: Yozakura Family is the worst manga for Shonen Jump, in my opinion. There are a lot of characters that don’t get explored and are stuck to niche archetypes. Our main character is afraid of connecting with people because he might lose them, which has potential but isn’t explored deep enough. The potential of him having a new family and adjusting is giving little to no time. I am not happy with the direction the series went.

Underrated video what is youtube doing? commenting for algorithm
This video reeks of ignorance on ALL cylinders.
1:42 – Firstly, you say "us" when you are very likely to be one of the very few people with this opinion.
1:50 – AND a second season set for 2026, but more on that later.
2:36 – Here we have a classic misinterpretation of what a "shonen" series is. Shonen manga aren't exclusively battle series and even if they are, as Yozakura is 3 parts comedy, 2 parts action, and 1 part romance, you're pushing an idea of a formula based on your preconceived bias. There is no need for a dedicated training arc when the entire premise is a normal boy training to become a spy, even if that's not your personal preference. This is a casual show aimed at a young audience, and episodic stories where a problem arises and is resolved fairly quickly is standard for these types of stories. Shonen Jump has no "restrictions" on this kind of thing. You do, clearly. Also, you use "plot armor" very loosely.
3:22 – "Sheer determination" as if Taiyo's ability to grow wasn't elaborated on in episode three. Futaba says it's not determination that keeps him going but feelings for Mutsumi that borders on insanity. The Yozakura family has powers, but they are the best spies in the biz. Most do not have crazy powers, so being trained to the standards of super powered individuals is enough to make a normal person like Taiyo with the right motivation a powerhouse among other relatively normal people. And again, you're throwing around the words "Gary Sue" very recklessly for a character who gets his ass beat CONSTANTLY until he gets the Yozakura blood (and he still gets his ass beat later, but puts up much more of a fight).
3:34 – This is a comedy manga. The spy theme is a backdrop that exists to give the world context, and while I agree that the potential to develop is more is there, it's not necessary for a character driven story such as this one. The world mostly exists as a tool for humor and there's nothing objectively wrong with that. Again, you're projecting personal preference as objective truth while disregarding the author's intent for the sake of entertaining a very narrow-minded view on what a shonen anime is.
3:45 – Like I said, there's a second season confirmed to be in production and there's enough source material for four. S1 of the anime adapts 10 volumes of a 29 volume manga and you speak as if it's a concluded series. I have finished the manga. Every member of the family gets vast amounts of character development as the series continues, some more than others.
4:02 – The manga has more of this, but the anime trims out some episodic chapters so they can get through the first story saga with TANPOPO. It's a different approach, but with the manga there are existing complaints of there being too many chapters that focus on one-off missions with the family rather than continuous plot movement. So, maybe the manga fits your preference more because it slows the pacing down significantly.
4:36 – Calling the tritagonist of this series the "main antagonist" is ridiculous. He plays an antagonist roll in Ch. 1 and then immediately becomes one of Taiyo's closest allies (even if forcibly). That's like calling Krillin the main antagonist of early Dragon Ball.
4:54 – That's not a retcon. Kyoichiro stepping out of line and bringing harm to Mutsumi's life as seen in Ep. 1 is the result of the incident. His sense of duty to protect his younger siblings, especially Mutsumi as the head, is a defining aspect of his personality that's existed since birth. Assuming he went from 0 to 100 because of one incident is crazy especially when your "retcon" is just him being a normal kid older brother wanting his cute little sister to himself.
5:52 – LMAO so Kirishima from MHA is "literal plot armor." I don't see what's wrong with having a defensive ability. Calling it boring for protagonist standards is also ridiculous because, just listing other shonen protagonists here, Naruto uses energy sphere and shadow clones, Deku punches and kicks hard for most of the series, Ichigo uses energy slash. Do you just not like the idea of a character whose motivation is to protect having an ability that helps him withstand attacks? It's not like he doesn't have a weapon either, but you wanna bitch about that too. Complaining about kid friendly as if this isn't an anime for kids and as if an electric gun is a lot cooler and flashier than a normal one. Furthermore, any anime censorship would be the responsibility of the anime itself and not the magazine it's serialized in, but I assume you're one of those people who think all shonen series are "Shonen Jump" based on your established ignorance.
6:09 – When was the Spy Association stated to be antagonists?? They are allies.
6:34 – Newsflash: It's a fucking gag ani- EXCUSE ME, MASTER ROSHI RIP-OFF?? Actually delete your channel, bro. I'm finishing the video and this comment, but that is absurd take. Thank you, Dragon Ball, for creating the lady-obsessed old man troupe. Thoughts on Jiraya?
6:51 – Newsflash: It's a fucking gag anime.
7:06 – Oh, so you did do some slight research and still complain about things that you know aren't problems? Ridiculous. I have a feeling you used AI on this script because a lot of the things you say sound like something spit out by a generator, but I won't hold that against you in case I'm wrong. If I'm right, you're a loser. Sosuke, the character who didn't appear, isn't the only removed character too. However, he got multiple cameos throughout the series and is very likely to have his content adapted in season two considering how necessary he becomes. The same goes for a friend of Shion named Kenji. These decisions were made to allow a complete story to be told and it's ironic that you bring up the cut content (which were pretty much all gags btw) to try and accuse the series for not utilizing it's episode count correctly by having too many gags (that were in the original manga).
7:42 – Gee, I wonder what will be the primary narrative moving into season two.
8:13 – Okay, you definitely used AI lmao. You don't even realize how contradictory the stuff you're saying is. You HAVE NOT read the manga nor did you pay attention to the anime.
I know this is just one person's video on an anime, but from a content creation standpoint you're a disgrace and you're annoying. Good day.
