With the First Reviews for Fantastic Four: First Steps dropping, Andrew & John RETURN to give their Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis & Full Movie Spoiler Review!!
Andrew Gordon & John Humphrey dive into Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007), the action-packed sequel to Marvel’s original Fantastic Four movie, directed by Tim Story.
The film reunites the super-powered team as they face their most cosmic threat yet. Ioan Gruffudd (Horatio Hornblower, San Andreas) returns as Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic, Jessica Alba (Sin City, Into the Blue) as Sue Storm / Invisible Woman, Chris Evans (Captain America: The First Avenger, Knives Out) as Johnny Storm / Human Torch, and Michael Chiklis (The Shield, Coyote) as Ben Grimm / The Thing. As Reed and Sue prepare for their wedding, Earth’s atmosphere is disrupted by the arrival of the mysterious Silver Surfer (voiced by Laurence Fishburne of The Matrix, John Wick), with Doug Jones (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy) providing the physical performance. The cosmic rider heralds the approach of Galactus, a planet-devouring force that threatens Earth’s survival.
Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck, Charmed) also returns as Victor Von Doom / Doctor Doom, who plots to harness the Surfer’s power for himself. Key moments include the Human Torch chasing the Silver Surfer across the city skyline, the wedding crash sequence, and the final showdown to save the planet from annihilation. Packed with early Marvel spectacle and comic book nostalgia, Rise of the Silver Surfer explores themes of teamwork, sacrifice, and cosmic consequence in the superhero genre.

  2. I think I understand what it was about this original fantastic four that the fans of the comics took issue with and it’s something that COY would mention often, and that is when they had gone their powers in order for bed, not to feel as an outcast from the others read made the fantastic four into a popular supergroup so that instead of people being afraid of them, they would be cheering him as a hero. But in these two movies, the first one and this one instead of being more wanting to be a group they’re leaning more into trying to separate themselves from each other, which is a little contradictory to what the purpose of the fantastic four was unless this is based on a story I’m not from where you’re with

  3. In the comics Frankie, Johnny’s girlfriend is a herald of Galactus called Nova, not to be confused with the Nova corps Nova. She is engulfed in cosmic flames but looks different from Johnny’s flames. They end up breaking up because Frankie has an aversion to flames, it later comes to light that it’s from a memory of coming into contact with the same chemicals that set the robot that was the original human torch on fire. Frankie ends up working for Galactus because she doesn’t care that he kills entire planets, where the surfer would take him to unpopulated planets, Frankie starts going to fully populated planets to feed to Galactus, she ends up dying eventually.

  4. I really loved these two films, and the cast imprinted on me. I would have loved a third film in the series, with Namor and Atlantis, possibly having conflict with an underground civilization, and the Mole Man, or Wakanda and the Black Panther, or Frankie Raye becoming the new herald of Galactus, the Inhumans, etc. There were so many comics and stories they could have brought to the screen in another sequel. It was really fun watching this again with you guys though. 🙏

  5. Fun fact the marvel universe that fantastic 4 is primarily from is earth 616, the sacred timeline the same universe as the avengers.

  6. These movies are ok but they always screw up the villain but this sequel is definitely better than the first.

First one Dooms backstory as a Lex Luthor type business billionaire mogul was who was with them in the shuttle and not having a slight Romanian like European accent was atrocious. In this one Galactus should have been Galactus and had his moment arriving on the planet.
