RED DRAGON Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis & Full Spoiler Review!!
Roxy Striar and Andrew Gordon sink their teeth into Red Dragon (2002), the chilling prequel to The Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal!!
Directed by Brett Ratner and based on the novel by Thomas Harris, the film sets the stage for Hannibal Lecter’s reign of terror by diving into the case that first brought him down. Edward Norton (Fight Club, American History X) stars as Will Graham, a gifted FBI profiler pulled out of retirement to track down a serial killer known as “The Tooth Fairy.” To catch him, Graham must confront the brilliant and sadistic Dr. Hannibal Lecter—played once again by Oscar-winner Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs, The Father) in one of his most iconic roles.
Ralph Fiennes (Schindler’s List, Harry Potter) delivers a haunting performance as Francis Dolarhyde, a reclusive killer obsessed with transformation, while Emily Watson (Breaking the Waves, Punch-Drunk Love) plays Reba, a blind woman who sparks an emotional conflict within him. The cast also features Harvey Keitel (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction) as FBI agent Jack Crawford, Philip Seymour Hoffman (Capote, The Master) as sleazy tabloid reporter Freddy Lounds, and Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds, Fried Green Tomatoes) as Molly Graham, Will’s wife.
Famous and highly searched moments include Lecter’s cryptic manipulation from his cell, the terrifying home invasion sequence, and Dolarhyde’s dragon transformation imagery—especially the chilling use of William Blake’s painting The Great Red Dragon and the Woman Clothed in Sun. With psychological tension, disturbing visuals, and a legacy of terror, Red Dragon cements itself as a key chapter in the Hannibal Lecter saga.

  2. This is a pretty weak remake of Michael Mann's Manhunter, even if it adapts a few moments from the book more faithfully. In its desire to make Hannibal Lecter more prominent than he was in the novel, it ends up making Will Graham less competent at his job.

  3. Please please please watch the Hannibal series! Its so beautiful and weird and creepy and intelligent. With great performances and characters. With twist and great writing. Please!!

  4. secreter / non-secreter refers to men who secrete their blood group in semen and those who don't. 20% of men are non-secreters.

  5. I can't wait for you to see the Hannibal series. Brilliant throughout, but I especially love the fact that I loved Hopkins as Hannibal and thought no one would ever come close – but then I saw the show and now Mads is the Hannibal Lecter for me.

  6. You guys gotta watch Hannibal Rising before you start the series, it gives you his whole origin story that leads up to the series 👍

  7. This flick just shows how much difference a director makes. Even with the dated 80s stylistic choices, Manhunter is the far superior adaptation. Very few filmmakers can even say they’re in the same league as Michael Mann when it comes to crime procedurals, and Brett Rattner isn’t even in the conversation. Hopkins, Norton, Keitel, and Hoffman all seem like they’re just taking a payday. Ralph Fiennes does a really good job, but at times it feels like Rattner’s pushing him too hard into a Norman Bates impersonation.

  8. That wasn’t the last Hannibal movie that was the last one with Anthony Hopkins but you have the old movie man hunter which like they said the red dragon was a remake to that one and than there was the movie Hannibal rising which that movie came out later after red dragon which has nothing todo with Anthony Hopkins but shows a younger Hannibal lector and yes a lot of people were also saying the Hannibal lector series

  9. There are 4 movies, you need to watch Hannibal Rising.
And please please please watch the Hannibal show it’s art! It’s a masterpiece!

  10. Best of the books and best of the movies in my humble opinion. The show is one of the best shows made as well, I was dead against it being made but when I watched, I put my hands up and admitted I was madly wrong for being against it.

  11. I absolutely love Red Dragon, such a great movie with outstanding performances. Ralph Fiennes was incredible in this, his portrayal of a broken, tormented and diabolical character was mesmerising

  12. Yes, yes, yes! Please cover the show. I can't watch it raw even if it looks so good. I would love to see you cover it and here your ractions.

  13. I've always respected gentleman criminals more than their less stoic contemporaries, both in cinema and the fleeting ones I've met.

  14. The random comments and side notes …from…love dolls to trying to figure out where they know the actors…missing whole plot points

  15. One of my fave Ed Norton and Ralph Fiennes films. Very cat and mouse storyline. Honestly, I liked it better than "Hannibal".

  16. Mads Mikkelsen does such a great job as Hannibal, as does the rest of the cast. I jokingly always refer to Hannibal as the best late-night cooking show, but at the same time… I'm not joking. Looking at the comments, I see a lot of people say great things about the show and wholeheartedly agree with them. Sadly, the Hannibal Show doesn't have a lot of reactions. It did come out before the time reactions started to blowing up, which could actually be very beneficial to you guys. Regardless of that, it would just be a great show for you to watch.

  17. As good as this movie is, I've always loved the original film, Manhunter, more. It is a movie of its time for sure but would love to watch the two of you react and compare it.

  18. In my experience, the difference between Genius and Insanity is that Genius is meticulous and Insanity is negligent. But they both occupy a similar space on the intelligence spectrum.

Insanity gives you the false belief that you're the smartest person in the room. And a true Genius will indulge you in your belief.

  19. the tiger scene in the book and the movie had me rooting for the antagonist like please relieve him of this demon!! he’s a lover boy possessed!!

  20. This is such an underrated movie!! Everyone talks about the main 2 but not this. I'm so glad you both loved it ❤

  21. The mom voice-over for Dolarhyde's intro is Ellyn Burstyn. She's uncredited but listed on IMDB. Also the scene where Lecter actually phishes for Graham's contact information is prescient.

  22. I have a friend that I now refuse to watch movies with because the whole time, instead of following the plot or enjoying what she’s watching, she spends the whole time trying to remember what she’s seen the actors on screen in before…. Guys! Stop! 😂

  23. As good as this movie is, the book is 10x better. Please do the last Hannibal movie with Juliana Moore. Criminally underrated movie with Gary oldman

  24. You should really watch the Hannibal series. I went into it with no expectations and ended up watching the entire thing in about a week. it was SO good, some part reminded me of Dexter a little bit, and the choices in casting were just superb.

  25. The four Hannibal Lecter novels by Thomas Harris are…
    Red Dragon
    The Silence of the Lambs
    Hannibal
    Hannibal Rising

So Red Dragon is not really a prequel in the strictest sense because Silence of the Lambs is a sequel to it's source material.

  26. Sorry if someone else clarified the following already but, what Hannibal served for that first dinner in the film, when that lady asked what was it they were about to eat, it was the flautist Hannibal was glaring at because he screwed up the concert with his poor playing and mistakes. Can you really blame him, I mean Hannibal? 😜😜😜🙄😬

  27. watch the tv series as well its everything rolled up into the series with great acting and the way the story is told, you see more things from hannibal perspective as well as everyone he encounters and more
