Did he leave snowboarding or did snowboarding kick him out? Arguably the best to ever do it, Shaun White has accumulated dozens of medals including multiple Olympic golds and even two perfect 100 run scores in pipe. Wearing pants tighter than most and a stance wider than anyone else at the top of the pipe, he managed to make a truly timeless impact on the sport. For years he was miles ahead of the competition, going bigger and faster than the rest. Now he’s focusing his energy on his new snowboard brand: Whitespace, and plans to be a part of the snowboard community for the foreseeable future. Find out where it all started, and possibly even where it all went wrong, on this week’s monumental episode of The Bomb Hole!

I was die hard Frends crew fan, bought 100% into this not core narrative. This really brought it full circle. Might be the most misunderstood dude in snowboarding.
The issue I have with a 100 score is that it shouldn't be possible when you do a trick without grabbing the board properly. Let's say he did a regular McTwist instead of the double 1260 but did a solid grab and possibly a tweak wouldn't that be a better run than spinning / flipping more but only touching your boot / edge? If not we might as well go full skiing aerials instead of emulating skateboarding.
Tremendous respect to everyone on this one. Much needed flowers to Shaun for everything he has done to the sport and evolving the core community.
Cheers!!!
Good to hear the humble back stories… but sadly it sounds like Shaun did snowboarding from his head more than his heart. In the end, it’s still all about playing.
Jones and Chris are both superb in the way they presented the questions and their ability to listen is second to none
And both great snowboarders in their own right! This was a great interview, Shaun really is an amazing dude ! We are all blessed to have him around, those who don’t realize this will eventually. Reminds me of Mx , Jeremy McGrath is a perfect example of a great giving back to the sport that gave him so much.
That was a damn good interview. I think people give him a hard time for being so good. He worked hard, was (is) a core boarder, congrats to him. Solid guy. Really enjoyed this one.
He hit the nail on the head describing it as “high school” behaviour… dudes an entrepreneur, grew up quick and had his head on his shoulders, ahead of his time. Gatekeeping is lame, snow, skate, surf, music… snow bros we’re just jealous, if they had half the opportunities to secure the bag that he had they’d have done snowboarding so dirty.
Thank you for everything you did for the sport. Xgames and competitive snowboarding (probably) peaked when you were at your peak. I hope it gets back to that someday.
Love the flying tomato, amazing athlete, snow skate
Thanks to Shaun's impact there are more people enjoying snowboarding today, and making this community we love so much bigger.
Great one Ride on!!!
Absolutely massive insight – shaun we love you. Thanks for all youve done for the sport. Hope this is part of a healing experience… god it must have been hard and isolating… that can destroy the best of them yet you persevered. What character. Excited to see your future impact on the sport.
And BH loving these heavy hitters and loving jones as a cohost, way to let the guest speak!!
Respect to Shaun for naming Terje his GOAT. Despite all the BS surrounding Terje and the fact that Terje has been a whining bitch about him for years.
Still surprised how dismissive Scotty James was about Terje in his Bomb Hole.
Loved this episode. Always been a fan of Shaun. Stoked to get more insight into his life and him as a person. Also stoked to hear we share the same fav board graphic and same fav riders style. Thanks Bomb Hole for bringing this episode to us all and thanks Shaun!
Forget the “core” haters! Your family is core and sorry to hear how you were treated behind the scenes and attempts to damage your career.
Imagine how amazing it would have been if he would have replied “Lucas Magoon” when asked about best style.
One of my favorite memories of snowboarding was seeing Shaun’s double mctwist 1260 at the US Open in Stratton for the first time.
A really great presentation. I met Sean once or twice back as far as 2009 or so he was very nice to me and yeah whatever but I’ve been snowboarding since 1988. I’ve done a few competitions,
Half pipe… Mount Baker Bank slalom and others….
And now, my cousin David Marx, is the marketing manager for Arbour snowboards!
So props to everyone
Yes, please go to the Wyoming Alaska whatever it is for that naturals selection
I think I still have TB9 on vhs back home. Shaun def inspired me from a young age. Would love to throw some laps at b-town with this guy!
I think he redeemed himself by answering why he was separated from the rest of the crew and seemed to be out if the culture for so long but you can tell it means everything to him. Such a solid dude and I am impressed with his humanity and how humble he is. Truly just another human being making mistakes and bettering himself throughout life. So stoked on the interview. Love you Shawn thank you for all of your hard work and beastly shredding!
No mention of stunt scooters?
Shaun White in Natural Selection, definetly want to see that
Interesting to hear his perspective. He’s not my favorite but is actually way more likable than the kids in Stowe, VT who wore tall tees and said the n-word circa 2007. The “core” crowd was I stopped riding for a long time and just skated.
I personally learned a lot about Shaun trough this episode. Everything is so much clearer, why he wasn’t really involved with others riders. Like being HIP but with is snowboarding kind of isolated him from the scene. I still have one of his Burton TWC Pro which is IMHO the best board Burton ever released, if not one of the greatest of all time.
First time working at keystone he came up with two passes. One was old and he told me to just throw it away. Still have his old epic pass hahahahah
Thanks for everything you have done for snowboarding and skateboarding you are the man. Late.
Would love to see Shaun compete in Natural Selection.
I really hope Shaun does Natural Selection, the "he's a sell out" should finally apperciate him. He pushed the sport to major new heights and is the reason for generations of riders. Great episode, seems like hes in a great place going to fun watching him get after it this season in the back country.
This is riveting
Shaun White is Like Drake for snowboarding same age different fields 💯
Shaun’s logic is sound about why he shouldn’t have been alienated from the culture, but he is fighting against very deep and ancient stuff. Dominant males in hierarchical groups who insist on winning everything and capturing the all/most the resources are typically ostracized from the group. In a chimps, for example, an Alpha that doesn’t share resources and mates and doesn’t let others win gets axed by the group of lower status males, who inevitably gang up on a greedy alpha. An alpha that allows others to win resources from time to time often stays the alpha for a much longer time and is granted power and status by the lower males as they are much more content with his rule when getting a piece of the action themselves. Shaun’s insistence that he should win everything and his ability to do it for a time was bad ass from an individualist position, but it will always stir up those ancient evolutionary group dynamics. It wasn’t until the failure of the 2022 Olympics that the group began to open back up to him. The same was true of Kelly Slater in surfing until Andy Irons starry beating him. Andy humanized Kelly by beating him and brought Kelly back down to earth.
It's cool to see his human side. We all bleed red.
Dear Shaun, I am sorry I fell for the haters saying you're not Core. Thank you for coming on the Bomb Hole. My opinion of you was sooo wrong.
I live in Florida so obviously not a snowboarder, however I grew up on Shaun white. Super cool to see him have this kind of come to Jesus meeting with the culture. Also this podcast is rad.
Donna did shaun dirrrty! Burton would not be where it is globally without this guy, wtf! Props to shaun for taking the high road!
I dont get the hate in the comments!!! Fucking people act like they are perfect and like to judge.i think he explained himself and made sense of the situation. And all of you people talking shit on money and sponsors your full of shit that you yourself wouldn’t snatch and grab to make your life better. So easy to be the cool guy and the core guy and act like you really know what you would do but you dont !! He has had a fucking microscope on him since day one. That shit can not be easy!! Good for you Shawn fuck the haters!!
Don’t smell his fingers!
Legendary podcast episode right here
Yeeess! This was a good one! Growing up, Shaun White was my biggest idol, so it was really cool to have him talk about that era of time! The Bomb Hole, you guys rock!!
Hahaha who was he talking about in the Totino's pizza rolls commercial?
Let’s talk biscuits
This was a great episode to listen to! Glad to hear Shaun's perspective on all the narratives about him.
When do we get to see episodes with folks like big mountain Jeremy Jones, Eric Jackson, John Jackson, Ryland Bell, Terje? Also, I know most people probably want nothing to do with him but I think it would be a very very interesting interview to have Nicolas Muller on. Just a thought
That was one of my most favorite interviews of all time. Real things that really needed to be said.
Snowboarding is so fun.
I think he's not an extremely social person. But obviously a nice, dude. I think he was very misunderstood in snowboarding.
A true legend, period
