Who was Yasuke the black samouraï? Born in the 1550s, Yasuke’s early life remains a mystery. Hailing from Africa, historians speculate he might have been born in Ethiopia, Mozambique, or South Sudan. In 1579, fate led Yasuke to Japan, side by side with the Italian Jesuit missionary, Alessandro Valignano. And here’s where things get fascinating! In Kyoto, Yasuke met the powerful daimyo, Oda Nobunaga, who was on a mission to unify Japan.Nobunaga was astounded by Yasuke’s imposing height and the unique color of his skin, unfamiliar to the Japanese of the time. Yasuke’s warrior prowess won Nobunaga’s heart, and he became the FIRST foreigner to attain the revered status of a samurai. Yasuke fought in battles alongside Nobunaga, displaying his skills and loyalty. Sadly, their journey together ended abruptly when Nobunaga faced betrayal by his general Akechi Mitsuhide and chose seppuku to protect his honor

  1. I don't want to be disrespectful to black people or to that man. But I have to say that nobunaga was an arrogant man and disrespect the warrior cast of the samurai and the act of name one slave has one of them was a message to the status of samurai. A message saying they was designated and anyone could be one if an authority declared that way

  2. I'm white as all shit but even if I trained my ass off I wouldn't want to be called a samurai because that should be something designated to the Japanese warrior
