You are aware he wasn't a samurai, right? You have to be born into the samurai class. It's not a title that is bestowed upon people. He's a legend, but barely mentioned in 2 sources. And in none of those sources do they call him a samurai. His name is generic. The character "Ya" means a manservant or laborer and "suke" is generally used for people that have like several older brothers. He was an arms bearer and there is zero evidence he fought in any battles. He did run like a coward after the battle where his master was killed. He was captured and was "such a legend" his captors didn't know who he was and wouldn't kill him because they thought him inhuman.
