The Kikatsugan, or starve pill, was designed to help the ninjas when in starvation, being made from glutinous rice, sake, dried chickweed, ginseng, buckwheat, adlay and yams.
Sanka, (Japanese: “Mountain Cave”) outcaste group of people in Japan. The Sanka are sometimes called the Japanese Gypsies, wandering in small bands through the mountainous regions of Honshu. They are not distinguishable in either physical type or language from the rest of the Japanese.
I know Genji is triggering a lot of people but we also gotta have to understand or atleast acknowledge the fact that this was simply the norm back then. They've been used to this way of living to the point where anything that doesn't align with these set of standards such as a woman being a samurai or executioner etc. are frowned upon. To us right now, these things clearly scream sexist/misogynistic but to people back then it was just how their way of life works; women are this and men are that etc. This is why Eizen and Genji are the way that they are. And this ideology is even more engraved into them especially since they're people of status so they would definitely feel strongly about adhering to societal standards.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying all this to say that we should just give them a pass for their behavior, cuz there's definitely some personal agenda mixed in with the way they're treating Sagiri. I'm just saying we should also have to acknowledge this fact about society back then, and not just on the surface level.
Ok in the manga he was sexist but to the degree they show in the anime I honestly didn't like him in the manga either but his logic was basically u woman not safe true but in the manga I love you like a little sister and I rather see getting married than welding a sword still sexist but not how the anime made it look it's literally going from overprotective older brothers too misogynistic dickheads i gotta defend it a little bit
Unfortunately the anime cut out a part of the interaction that changes the meaning of the scene: After Genji brings down his sword and before the dust clears, in the manga he says "Next time it won't be a friendly warning…." before realizing Sagiri already took his sword. In the anime it just looks like Genji was trying to kill Sagiri.
tenza is playing peekaboo in 10:36 🤧💕💕
So because it’s 2023 a woman can’t be shown in any form of media fighting through misogyny? Weird take, this is quite clearly part of her struggle that she has to overcome, understand being upset at the character but to be critical of the story for having misogynistics characters is pretty narrow way of view things. It’s ironic Jjk was mentioned because it pretty much drives the point home that misogyny is still a thing regardless of era but obviously during this time period it was worse.
Let's not forget it's just an anime and Japan frowns upon identity politics so also on feminism. There's a reason why Japanese games, manga and anime are flourishing compared to the western media of the world. People are tired of identity politics getting shoved in their faces through the years. And there are plenty of badass women in anime that I truly love that handles swordmanship better than men in their respective anime. Like Saeko from highschool of the dead, Mikasa from attack on titan… Nowadays men get ridiculed for just breathing, so…
We got about 1000 other old school fantasy animes where women are treated much better than they were in historical times, so idk why its suddenly an issue(in the west mind you…surprise) when we got something remotely accurate. I like it because its gonna be more rewarding when Sagiri shows those types of people up.
Also love how people instantly forgot Genji saved her this episode, and even in episode 3 when Gabi got injured.
Genji svinging the sword was a scare tactic, it probably was explained a little clearer in the manga
Japan did not allow women to enter the workforce. Women should not be ahead of men. Women were to enter the home.
Only bitches wont respect a man who saves a WOMAN lives
Ah yes its only feminism until they freeze in their tracks of fear
Genji saved a her life
Genji would be the kind of Redditor that writes one really unnecessarily long paragraph then gets upset when someone responds "Who asked?"
I recommend reacting to the 1997 "berserk" anime if you haven't yet; it will always be my favorite one.
tv show: has a sexist character and very clearly wants you to know their views are stupid
weirdos online: "leave him alone! its actually normal for the time period!"
For the shit he said, he at least tried to protect her. Maybe if he was taught differently he would be a cool guy.
20:10 “instant karma”. if you think someone should die Bc they don’t want a woman or children on this death island, then that’s messed up. Obviously he’s wrong about her being weak. But he had no ill-intent behind his words. Also he doesn’t care about purple clothes girl Bc she’s a prisoner and deserves to be there. Saigiri is his friend so naturally he’d wanna protect his friend. Him drawing his sword was a scare tactic btw, he was trying to kill her
They called Genji dying instant karma but he is the one who saved her 😶lmao
typical weak woman. getting triggered over something so trivial 💀
I don't think the senta are natives. Everyone is from Japan, it's just that they live in the mountains and don't follow the Shogan, so they were eliminated due to that fact
Also, Yuzuriha is a criminal, she has a "job" to do on the island. Genji doesn't care about her, if she steps out of line he'll execute her
Morgan doing that cave man voice just cracks me up.
"You wOMa n Yu HaV Baby"
