  1. I am here once again to inform you, that Kekkai Sensen has some of the most beautiful OSTs and 2 in particular are my favorite… "World Goes Round" and "On My Own"

  2. Well, Hideaki Anno while working on the Evangelion was dealing with deep depression himself and used some of own experience.

  3. This song without context is hard to explain, but is with the animation secuence that is inserted, one of the pinnacle of world animation, it convey everything the characters are feeling, what the director want to express and we as the viewers feel at that point of the movie. I also recomend "Thanatos, if i cant be yours." By far one of the most beautiful songs i ever listen. Also the instrumentals pieces made for the anime by Shiro Sagisu are very iconic.

  4. Can you do "Tsubasa wo kudasai" as well? It's another ost from Evangelion and one of my favorite songs of all time.

  5. Eva got me into watching anime. It is an amazing piece of storytelling. I tell anyone that hasn't seen it, you must watch it, and it is not a mecha anime.

  6. エバシリーズは全て死ぬ前に一度は見た方がいい作品です。そしてもう一度この曲を聴いてください。多分泣きます

  7. Evangelion is an absolutely legendary anime for so many reasons.
It single-handedly revived the Mecha anime genre, despite not being a mecha anime itself. It showed the old adage "don't judge a book by the cover" remains true because on first look Eva seems like an action mecha anime, when in reality it is a psychological horror that explores human existential crisis and extreme mental illness of varying kinds. It provoked anime studios into investing heavily in their openings and soundtracks. It showed everyone everywhere that anime can be more than mindless entertainment, but you can have deep interesting relatable characters and long meaningful stories and lessons.
They even got Utada Hikaru to do songs for the Rebuild movies, when she's already legendary for her other works, including Kingdom Hearts.
Evangelion is, far and away, my absolute #1 favorite anime of all time.

The original airing was Oct 95 – March 96, with two movies in 97 to wrap up and give more context to the original story. Then Hideaki Anno, the original creator, released the Rebuild movies in 2007, 2009, 2012, and 2021, which are half-way between a reboot and an extension of the story.

Komm, süsser Tod is the music that plays in the original series' story climax, and the Rebuild uses Tsubasa wo Kudasai in its climax which is similarly haunting and chilling with its apocalyptic events but "happy" music. I highly recommend you react to Tsubasa wo Kudasai, especially in the context that it is used similarly narritively to Komm, süsser Tod. I'd also love to see your reaction to Angel of Doom from Eva Rebuild 1.0.

  8. The scene where this song plays, is one of the most iconic in anime history, sets the mood, because something really really bad happens in that moment, but everyone is happy to that XD. Btw, those aren't mechs, they're something else, what you see as a mech is actually their armor.

  9. The original series Neon Genesis Evangelion was first aired in Japan between 1995 and 1996, by itself the anime has a very solid OST. This song, Komm Süsser Tod is from the movie The End of Evangelion, which is basically a remake of the final 2 episodes of the anime series. Where this song is used, would be spoiling a lot, but if it could be compared, imagine that Nicholas Cage movie Knowing, where at the end scene, the music played is Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 Allegretto, you could compare that type of dichotomy in the music and the scene.
In my opinion, and kind of interesting, is that this song technically has a counterpart in the most recent Evangelion movie, the name of the song is "What if", used in a similar scene, with similar implications.

Given your anime journey, you should consider watching Neon Genesis Evanglion (26 episodes), The End of Evangelion and then the Rebuild Movies in that order, specially because the Rebuild movies tend to reference the anime and The End of Evangelion movie.

  10. "It seems depressing as sh*t." he said.

No shit. Evangelion literally is the manifestation of depression.

  11. When I was fighting with my depression I was attending the group therapy sessions and we have somewhat called "music therapy". Basically anyone could choose one song from YT and play in front of group. Later we were supposed to talk about text and feelings after hearing the song.
Most of you probably already see where it is going…
Anyway after my little debut as DJ and playing this little gem I was literally banned to even touch the laptop for the rest of sessions… 😅

  12. Great song. The better mecha anime ever since the 1980s have a tradition of including pretty dark stories, a likely legacy of Japan's post-war generation. For similar cheerful nihilism, I recommend reacting to the song UNINSTALL, the OP from the mecha anime Bokurana (be sure to have a subtitled version).

  13. Wait, you meanyou haven't watched Evangelion?! Stop everything and go fix that rigth this moment! 24 episodes, and then a handful of movies. Order does matter, ask for help. Go. In. Blind.

  14. The creator of Evangelion was battling depression at the time, and it really shows.

It is also, to this day, one of the greatest anime and manga masterpieces of all time.

  15. Hey, there is another version of Komm Süsser Tod done by the group "Mili", if you want to check it out on your own or in reaction, it give a very different take on this song, and helped me to be more loving with my close one just by the way it struck me. Always a please to watch your reaction.

  16. As a fan of Evangelion, I will say that OST of this anime is far from the best.
But if we talk about the Songs, they are great, but nothing more. Especially for those who haven't watched the anime.

  17. 😂😂😂of course this song gives you vibes from listening to it in a church. The series is literally called "Gospel of the new Genesis"

  18. Finally! Geez. Everyone just listens to A Cruel Angel Thesis, I can find barely any videos talking about this song. I don't know exactly why the title of the song is in german, I think it's just an stylistic choice but the show does have one german character that gets a lot of focus, so it could also be to represent that character.
