Most were quick to declare the Resident Evil 4 Remake a masterpiece of modern gaming that surpasses the original in just about every way. I merely think it’s great, which means I hate it.

  1. In the german version Krauser sounds like a carricature of a 80s/90s movie villain/baddy… so cheesie… maybe this was done on purpouse. the other characters are very well spoken imo!!

  2. I think you're irrationally glorifying the original RE4 which was a very flawed (but good) game. The remake improves on it in almost any category and turns it into the game it should have been. Most people found Ashley annoying in the original and now she's charming. There are only very tiny points of critique that I see. I agree the Ashley close/far mechanic serves no purpose. The other points I see are too tiny to even be worth mentioning .It is without a question a masterpiece of a remake.

  3. This is a very good review, with plenty of pro's as well as con's, and your comment about the 'Leon stumble cycle' mirrors what other trusted reviewers like Nerrel have stated. For all the graphical, textural and content upgrades it seems like the game mechanics have been hindered, which is an issue that was oddly predictable.

  4. Thank you for being much more fair to the remake than the Crowbcat video.

It was clear to me that he probably went into the remake having already made up his mind that he hated it, and it felt like he simply chose to ignore all the positives and skimmed through to cherry pick all the negatives…to the point where it's often not even clear what he was criticizing.

  5. I'm personally happy to play both the new RE's and remakes, i am looking forward to the RE 5 remake, it will be drastically changed for modern sensitive audiences but it should hopefully be good 2 player co op fun.

  6. Melee kick IS consistent, every weapon have stagger power.
OG RE4 was too easy because of hiting head and kicking pretty mich won you any encounter.
I would even say OG need mechanic check to not always stagger on head on leg hits.

Personaly – cant enjoy OG RE4 after remake, game have no flow nor difficulty.
Did S+ Pro with no glitches or exploits (except ones that are planted by devs), beat it in slightly over 4 hours, there were more than 1.5 houts left to do, so i assume you can even kill every mob and still do S+ Pro run.
Also i dont know how selling in game boost for a single player game that desighned to be beaten without it is runing gaming?

  7. I enjoy the original (it’s my favorite game of all time honestly) but I also enjoy the remake.. but I like them on their own separate merit. I can play the original and then go right in and play the remake without getting bored.

  8. Hey i prefer the first zone of the enders to the 2nd runner and bioshock 2 is my favorite in the series so i know i thing or two about being contrarian 🤢

  9. I haven’t seen a lot of posts online or on YouTube talking about gunpowder but is it possible to craft magnum ammo in this remake like in the original resident evil 3?

  10. I love the old re4…but enjoyed the remake as well… the changes were nice some unexpected …over all good.. 8 out of 10..

  11. Pretty much agree on this. What I gathered…camera work and cinematography was much better in the original. Sound design was better in the original. Nothing against the actors but Krauser and Ada were done better in the original. Krauser was more interesting and was just more fleshed out in the original. Him finding the Illuminados for "power" just killed it for me. He had much more personality along with good back story on his pursuit for Wesker in the original. Finally, as odd as this might sound. The writing was just flat in the remake even if you took out the cheesy stuff from the original there was still great stuff from it to include.

The dialogue is just flat and boring hearing "What the hell" or "Who the hell are you" etc etc it just all feels quite lazy and even forced at times. It just loses style you can even tell just by the cover art of all these remakes they all have the same damn logos lol. Even the writing in RE2 remake and RE3 remake were better than this one it was just so forced even at the end with Krauser dying lines delivered were so typically hammy. Everything else was fine. Luis, Saddler and Salazar are all practically the same one dimensional villains.

  12. I thoroughly enjoyed the remake and would heartily recommend it to anyone, but yeah, the original is just one of those timeless classics like Silent Hill 2 or Majora’s Mask that perfectly encapsulates its era. Just an undefeatable, legendary game – no matter how good the remake is it can’t beat the legacy.

  13. I think the castle is not as good as the original Salazar was not as good as the original but his boss fight was a lot harder and Krauser is amazing in this game. Luis is also better with more backstory.

  14. Honestly until you can get the microtransaction item for free as well, i don't have really any problem with that

  15. I’m here from rapidcrafter. I heard from him you make good criticism of re4 remake. I look forward to it. I like good criticism but dislike nitpicks and emotional arguments like how a game is ‘soulless’. So I’m looking forward to it.

  16. Good review so far man, I understand what you mean about the re4 muscle memory working against you. I feel the same way and it is frustrating. I played RE4 too much and don’t like inconsistent game rules.

I have the same type of problems with other games like Evil Within.

  17. I don't know, I'm the weirdo I guess but I never thought the original Resident Evil 4 was the second coming masterpiece that so many people claim it is

I was not a fan of the shift from horror to action, nor did I like that it basically had nothing to do with the series overarching plot line at that point

So just as a Resident Evil fan I was disappointed by it.

It's not a bad game by any stretch and it deserves its historic place in gaming history. I warmed up to it as the years went on but it's never made any list of my favorite action games or my favorite Resident Evil games

This remake however which I was not very hyped for because of my feelings about the original, I think this game is phenomenal

I've had far more enjoyment with this title than I ever have over repeat playthroughs of the original

I feel like the gameplay in and of itself is leagues better just between controls and combat, and I think it is better paste with more interesting characters. The banter between Ashley and Leon is so much better here

And I'm incredibly appreciative of the fact that they actually created some of the segments of this game to bring some horror back into it

Hell they even managed to make the island segment not drag

I don't know, as a huge fan of the franchise from the old PlayStation trilogy, I have to say I've actually rather enjoyed every single Resident Evil title they've put out on the RE engine

And that includes Resident Evil 3 even. That's just the only one of these remakes that doesn't convince me that I don't need to replay the original ever again for a vastly different experience

  18. Holy Moly someone who doesn't act like this game is the 2nd coming of jesus christ and acknowledges it's flaws? Don't get me wrong, i love both the Remake and the OG equally (both some of my fave games of all time) but the constant fan boying and 10/10 scores are getting annoying. Also hot take: I'd rather Capcom focus on making good new games instead of Remakes.

  19. Honestly this is the most accurate and understandable take on the remake vs the original. I really appreciate your takes on the gaming industry in all of your videos. Im not always looking for someone to align perfectly with my own opinion but your opinions just make sense so much of the time.

  20. Honestly my only gripe is the bosses, i agree that they’re much more forgettable than the og, good video!

  21. While I completely understand others taking it differently, I took Ada's performance as intentionally overly aloof, so she appears to always be in control of any situation.

  22. Ruined Krauser as a character, gave him the worst possible voice to go with his cliche "I WANT POWER" garbage that works way less than his original arc of needing Las Plagas to heal his arm. This game also basically de-confirms any possible future game based around Operation Javier, which sucks, because I love the T-Veronica Virus, and unless we get the equally-unlikely CVX remake, we will never see that virus again.

This game is great on its own, in most ways, but I wouldnt put it above RE2make, nor would I say its better than the original 4. Put this game's textures onto that game, and theres no reason for this game to exist.

    Still, 8.5/10

  23. Also, charms are not fully random. I reset after pulling 3 Bella Sisters in a row, tried 3x more, same pulls, even the same 2 after those 3. Reset again, waited until the very last shooting range before Saddler, and got the exact same 5 in a row

  24. Pretty much agree with what you said about the gameplay. I'd just emphasize Leon feels so cumbersome and slow compared to the OG. It feels like it takes him forever to bring up his gun to aim or switch weapons, and takes a few extra steps to stop. That, plus the enemies tanking hits w/o staggering and the knife durability, just made it feel like taking the safe, distant approach and spamming some crossbow bolts was the encouraged method. I also don't get why the mechanic to stay still to get a better aim is still in this remake considering it rarely ever seems like a good idea to stay in one spot long enough to use with all the enemies running around rushing you. I'd have to play it a little more, but I feel like most of the encounters kind of mix together in the remake more where as the encounters in the OG stood out more from each other. I think the water room is a big example of this. It was infamous in the OG, but just feels like another combat zone (maybe slightly tougher than usual).

  25. I too have played the og well over 100 times since 2005, by far my favorite game of all time. So much so that I got the 4 logo tattooed on my shoulder back in 2008, and even though the remake is decent, its utter trash compared to og. I've played the remake 14 times because it still has that replayable "essence" of the original, despite being flawed beyond measure. From the most poorly implemented stealth in video game history, to the most painfully unbalanced, sadomasochistic difficulty and unfair enemy AI I've ever seen in 30 years of gaming. And let's not forget the still unaddressed glaring performance issues, this remake is a hot mess. RE2remake is still INFINITELY better.

  26. I agree with most of your points laid out here, especially the Ada Wong performance. As someone who's sworn by Capcom games since I was 10, I do find the practice of microtransactions scummy, and to see my favorite company from childhood go down that Call of Duty road since 2010 is a stab in my heart. As a game dev myself, hiding extra content behind paywalls is just slapping the players around with a rotten fish; if devs wanna do something like that, then give them a personalized code to download the content for free after completing the game once.

  27. Well this is extremely subjective, I admit, I feel there is always an insane amount of nostalgia in the negative points.

I got all the achievements, finished it also in pro several times as well , no glitches, and recently finished it on hardcore again, and surprised me how easy the game is when you learnt the mechanics instead of constantly wanting your skills and tricks of the OG to reflect the exact same in the remake.

Also saying glitches were used mostly to skip annoying parts, is the most bullshit convenient made up opinion ever x) , they are used mostly to maximize the time in which you finish the game, to get S+, 😅 it wasnt to skip annoying content, it was a speedrun thing, otherwise we could say the same about the skips in the og one, or hundreds of other games…

  28. I haven’t played the game yet and trying to look for some unbiased reviews. This one is the most annoying of the bunch

  29. Should have mentioned that the issue with micro transactions is that they also prey on people with gambling addictions and neurodivergent people. THATS why it’s gross

  30. I don’t know what direction Krauser and Ada’s VA were given, but it wasn’t the vibe and Ada just sounds robotic in the remake and Krauser sounds like someone doing a poor imitation of an imitation of a tough guy.

And the wombo combos into the shadow realm are ridiculous, I get that because of the newer RE engine during the playthrough Leon can be more reactive to what’s going on around them with axes, dynamite, molotov’s and scythes being thrown at him and nearly hitting him and he covers himself just incase he gets hit. But if Leon is stuck doing those reactions while getting punched and hit with a stun rod and you can’t do anything but tank them and either barely get by or just die from just attack priorities
