Isn't it there's something about saying lagend about tanuki in Japan?. Like, when Tanuki put a leaf on their head, they will be able to disguise as other animals. And that tanuki have a leaf on his head!
Until the raccoon becomes mature yes they are like cats. I know someone who first time raising a raccoon accidentally kept it while he(the raccoon) hit maturity and wanted a partner. The raccoon bit through welding gloves and the guy had to go to the hospital for other scratches and bites.
