Why is it "super weird" a different culture made a character 16? It's weird for western audience for sure, but if you look at anime as a whole, Kill La Kill included, you should know that Japanese depictions of teenagers are completely different than what we find normal here in the west. It's not right to call it "problematic". I feel like it's problematic that we have to press our culture onto theirs and judge them and the show for something like that. Plus, she isn't 16. She's 666. And despite the memes of "16 year old but actually 666", she does not act like a 16 year old whatsoever. None of the girls do. Us westerners jump at any slight depiction of an underage character to call it problematic. It's only weird and problematic because people are making it weird and problematic. If she was never stated to be "16" and the show only said she was 666 but internally the writers saw it as 16 (even if the number 16 is just a reference), no one would bend an eye. Like if we're gonna have a problem with her age, why don't we have a problem with the drastic amount of teenagers in anime that are literal murderers and killing other people left and right? West loves to make anything they can that is slightly sexual weird, but don't give a rat's ass about all the other bad, immoral and wrong things characters do. But as soon as it's anything that can be taken in any slight sexual way, gotta pick up the pitchforks and make a fuss about it.
I love that you put South Park next to it and address directly to the viewer that it's is MEANT to offend and that's how I enjoy it so much. (Season one as a student and season two as a wife/mom. Always a fun outlet.)

The issues only really start when people start to get too sensitive or self absorbed that they either push their ideas on other gracelessly or demand others accommodate them.
In my opinion men, when allowed to write and draw women as they please, tend to be pretty accurate to both their fantasies and desires, but also to the authentic ideal or authentic realism of the state of women as an archetype.
Rather than get bogged down by fears of offense, or get holier than though by making an ideological lens to warp some aspects of womanhood.
That's why Japanese writing and drawing and media in general always feel right when not censored, because it's from the heart, vulnerable and willing to be judged in spite of the intimate nature of their ideas going out into the world.
This can even go as far as best depicting femininity better than feminists.
I've always liked how they fit so well into their archetypes. They enjoy doing what they want, and they keep doing it regardless of what others think.
I disagree with you on them “not caring about what they look like.” To me, I like them because quite clearly they do care about what they look like. They love being cute and are stylish but are also raunchy and imperfect.
ive always found it interesting how the angle sister contrast each other while the demon sister complement each other, like even when it comes to how panty and stocking view romances .panty does not make bonds with most of the she effs but she constantly seeks them out for pleasure but stocking while rarely goes after guys but when she does shes way more emotional attached to them in a sweet and romantic way for example (which is also why i found the angel brothers pretty mediocre as they dont feel like individuals)

Professional anime critics, man. I saw Panty and Stocking, and I thought it was super funny, cute and cool show. I actually still have the S2 theme stuck in my head, and I'm looking forward to S3, hopefully not in another 10 something years. But then the weirdos saw that sweet episode and went all, ''b-bUt ShE wUZ 16!''. Like wtf? Who even thinks about that? Problematic? Lmao. Kneesocks is my favorite demon sister, she's 666 and despite what the show says, if you personally make some sort of weird connection of 16 to whatever, then that says something about you. What can we expect from a man that apparently needs permission and a disclaimer to simply talk about female characters though.

As a woman, I have a weird relationship with Panty and Stocking.. I love the characters, their designs, the artstyle, and basically everything, but the s3x scenes (basically 70% of the show) have always made me really uncomfortable and I sometimes skipped them, am I the only one orrr..??? 😭-
Panty and stocking allow their women to be messy and sexual, sexual in that it’s not sexualising women but rather allowing women to be open in their sexuality without being ashamed of it which we almost never get to see in media

Panty and Stocking (and the Demon Sisters as well) have petty squabbles at times because they are proud, but they are NEVER in competition with each other, and they never go out of their way to put other women down. Panty even tries to "give them a win" in the women's prison episode. I love how they're written to not give a damn about what is expected of them, the entire premise of the show is spelled out in both the season 1 and season 2 finales "We'll do whatever we want when we want, and we don't give a fuck." There's no performing here or trying to fulfill some sort of gender role or standard. There's no worrying about how they look (with the exception of Stocking realizing she was overeating in Season 1), or even catering to men, despite Panty's man obsession. She sees them as tools, objects of pleasure to be used. Honestly, good for them lmao (except for the Brief thing because that boy is a damn high school child wtf)
I think a lot of people who don't realize that Panty and Stocking are what a lot of women (Especially younger women) are like 'behind the scenes'. The air of women not being Gross is a public image that's cultivated for a variety of reasons. But there IS a lot of guys who wouldn't like to be with someone who is as bitchy as Panty is, while enjoying stocking. But there is also a lot of people who go wild for the Angel brothers and see them as the kinda 'new hotness'. I think it comes down to people's expectations. From Invisibitch in Dispatch, to Panty and Stocking, Guys Love bad girls. But I think what Invisibitch does better than panty and stocking is she shows genuine interest in the main character in her own small ways, better than panty shows for Geek boy. A layer of complexity that isn't needed for a good off the cuff 'girl unleashed' character. The girl who never grew out of bullying the guy she likes is a fine angle for a bitchy character. And honestly I think most guys would like a baddy like invisibitch, where as panty would be one where you have to be completely willing to have no boundries for her.
The "surprisingly genuine women" feeling is just the lack of american obnoxious DEI politics injected into the media.
Ngl, this is my favorite comedy anime of all times, it is awesome
