A new Coast Guard report just came out, and it found that the Titan submersible implosion that killed five people, it was preventable. right, and Notably, they didn’t mean like it would be preventable if you thought, “hey, I shouldn’t get into that sketchy ass tube to go down to see the Titanic.” They were looking for key contributing factors to why it happened. right, And according to reports, it largely came down to six things. Saying right off the bat the sub’s design was flawed and it used questionable materials. as well as CEO Stockton Rush refusing to put the sub through a voluntary certification process, saying “that it would stifle innovation.” Ocean gate’s former director of marine operations was fired days after reporting concerns about the sub’s carbon fiber hull in 2018. The sub’s passengers were classified as mission specialists to avoid small passenger vessel regulations. Ocean gate attempted to train sub pilots in a single day. and The sub was stored in an outdoor parking lot in Canada over the winter to save money. and even that, it doesn’t touch on the toxic work environment stuff. right, Reportedly, there were firings and threats to fire people if they raised safety issues. with the report, then including 17 safety recommendations that the Coast Guard says is “aimed at strengthening oversight of submersible operations, improving coordination among federal agencies, and closing gaps in international maritime policy.”

  1. OceanGate is what needs to be pointed out to people that keep repeating that "Future of space travel is privatisation" untill the end of time itself

  2. "Where do we put this fragile carbon fiber sub in the off season? Every other industry takes extreme measures to protect their carbon fiber from the elements…"
"….Meh, store it outside in the winter in Canada. It'll be fine".

Narcissism. Don't do crazy stuff with narcissists…they don't care if YOU die, and they've got delusions of grandeur so they have no concept of when/how THEY could die.

  3. They did at least 3 small-scale tests of the design, and none of them passed before they went into the full-scale phase of the project. That is a genuine representation of insanity if I've ever seen it.

  4. It was preventable on the fact that they had no manual safety for redundancy no emergency way to essentially blow the ballast and float back up all because a team of idiots decided hey the only controls you need is this electronic controller cause water let alone salt water plus electricity work so happily together

  5. If you're making a submarine that YOU are supposed to be using, cutting corners just seems like natural selection getting to work.

  6. Talk about the most avoidable lost of lives. Oh well at least a couple pennies were saved, now that’s just cost effective and grade A business management 10/10 WTF

  7. I don't understand this level of greed. The dude was a billionaire. He could have easily paid millions to make sure all the safety stuff was done especially since he would be riding in it. But he was like noo I don't wanna spend money to make this safe. Bruv. With your wallet, you would still be a billionaire even if you spent millions to ensure safety. Human greed is truly baffling

  8. Guy was all in, if that sub didn't go to the titanic wreck he would be finacially ruined. Guess he figured he'd be proven right about his cheapo fibreglass sub or it suddenly wouldn't be his problem.

  9. If Stockton Rush had been poor, he’d probably have been diagnosed with some kind of reckless, sensation seeking mental illness plus a personality disorder; he’d have been sectioned long before he could do himself, or other people, any harm. But because he was privileged and wealthy, he was viewed as "eccentric", and his incredibly dangerous whims were indulged.

He used his power to bulldoze through the sensible concerns of rational people to get his way, using threats to destroy the careers of anyone who tried to stop the madness. It’s sad that rich people get away with this sh!t, and cause others a great deal of pain and suffering in the process.

  10. I know its bad to laugh because people died but storing it outside in a canada winter to save money is funny but also shows why billionaires should be ignored

  11. Design was flawed? Bro they could have died because of the controller had stick drift or disconnecting!! Of course it was preventable anyone with a brain saw that.

  12. Mr Harris… Your idea on proportionality and number of casualties is really laughable, and to think I thought you were one of the greatest of our time. Well that was a joke.

  13. There is only one person who I feel sorry for such a short life. He was forced on the sub to spend father's day with his dad. He did not want to go on the trip to begin with. He would still be alive if he had been given the choice to opt out. He was 21 at the time of death

  14. The country failed the passengers the most if a corperation can do all those things under their noses.
Except they didnt even monitor anything about it

  15. Equipment Specialists: Yo this isn't safe.
Marine Scientists: Yo this isn't safe.
Submarine Experts: Yo this isn't safe.
    CEO Billionaire: Shut up, nerds.
