We become Israel by believing in Jesus, not by genetics or by being a citizen of an earthly country.

The church was Israel from it's very inception. Gentiles were only included after it was first presented to Israel. You cannot be a gentile Christian. "Gentile Christian" is an oxymoron. Gentile means heathen or pagan. You cannot be a pagan Christian. There cannot be a gentile church. Once you come to belief in the only begotten Son of God, you cease to be pagan or gentile.

God named Jacob Israel because of his faith. The name has a meaning. Jacob strove with God and prevailed or survived. We strive with God when we seek him through faith in Jesus the Christ. We prevail because we survive to eternal life. Everyone who strives and prevails through Jesus is surnamed by God. Our surname is Israel. We prevail with God and men because we overcome the world through Jesus.
